Dyfed Chess Congress 2017

This just in from Howard Williams (thanks Ron!) regarding the DYFED CHESS CONGRESS 2017: FISHGUARD: FEB 24-26

Dear All

Many of you will have seen an entry form for our annual congress (and some may even have entered) but in case not there is a link to the form below (though I’ll send a paper copy to anybody who asks).

Perhaps you could pass on this message to anybody else in your club you think may be interested.

For those who have not played before the hotel is adjacent to the railway station and to the Rosslare ferry terminal. And as usual we try to offer generous prizes,  with in particular four grading prizes in the Open of £100 each (up from three last year) and a guaranteed first prize in the Major (under 1600) of £150. For the first time we are offering this year a Blitz Tournament on the Saturday evening which we hope to be FIDE rated.

Entries should be sent to Tony Haigh.

Amazing Penarth Congress Results!

Richard Livermore has given us some great news about Malpas results in the recent Penarth Congress.  Thanks Richard.

Richard himself won the Major with a score of 4.5 out of 5!   This score cements Richard’s position as a force to be reckoned with, especially given his strong continuing performance in the Malpas Chess Club Championship.

Robert  Taylor came joint 2nd in the Welsh Seniors’ Championship, with a score of 3.5 out of 5, unbeaten despite three of his opponents being over 2000.

Dave Turner‘s performance was outstanding  –  he tied for 1st in the Open with 3.5 out of 5, which was actually 3 out of 4 over the board, as he had taken a 0.5 point bye in the first round.  His draws were against two 2250 players, Tim Kett and a Polish Fide Master, and his wins against a 2160 player and a 2200 Women’s Fide Master.   I think you’ll agree that this is an awesome performance and worthy of major congratulation.

These bullet-proof Malpas players scored a total of 9 wins, 5 draws and no losses!

Well done to everyone.

Gwent 2015 Entry Form

Correspondence Chess Championships

From Mark Adams:

Hi All,

I’m trying to get an 8 person Gwent team together to play in the British Counties and Districts Correspondence Chess Championship. West Wales have taken part in this for the last two seasons – sadly being relegated this season. We’re trying to raise two more Welsh County Teams. This event is only TWO games per player. As you can see from the example players of all strengths take part in this event – I’d expect the new team(s) to take part in the lowest Division but if we are strong enough may get placed into the 2nd!

Please can you let me know if you are interested in playing.

Thanks

Mark
