Amazing Penarth Congress Results!

Richard Livermore has given us some great news about Malpas results in the recent Penarth Congress.  Thanks Richard.

Richard himself won the Major with a score of 4.5 out of 5!   This score cements Richard’s position as a force to be reckoned with, especially given his strong continuing performance in the Malpas Chess Club Championship.

Robert  Taylor came joint 2nd in the Welsh Seniors’ Championship, with a score of 3.5 out of 5, unbeaten despite three of his opponents being over 2000.

Dave Turner‘s performance was outstanding  –  he tied for 1st in the Open with 3.5 out of 5, which was actually 3 out of 4 over the board, as he had taken a 0.5 point bye in the first round.  His draws were against two 2250 players, Tim Kett and a Polish Fide Master, and his wins against a 2160 player and a 2200 Women’s Fide Master.   I think you’ll agree that this is an awesome performance and worthy of major congratulation.

These bullet-proof Malpas players scored a total of 9 wins, 5 draws and no losses!

Well done to everyone.

New FIDE Rated Event

This just in from Kevin Stavely:

NEW FIDE RATED EVENT

I am orginising a new FIDE rated event in the South Wales area.

The event will be held from Friday 8th February – Monday 11th February 2013, hopefully in the Cardiff area.

The exact format and venue will be decided once we know the number of entries. However, we hope to be able to place players into groups of 8 (ideally 2-3 juniors and 5-6 adults in each group but again this will depend upon the number of entries) and each section will then take part in an all-play-all. I am aiming for the adults in each group to be roughly the same standard with the juniors FIDE rated 150-200 points lower.

There will be one game on Friday evening with two on each of Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Since we hope this will be an all-play-all NO BYES will be allowed.

Because players will compete in groups of 8 the number who can participate is limited.

I therefore invite ADULTS with a FIDE rating of 1750 or above or juniors with a FIDE rating of 1600 or above or national rating of 1750 or above to express an interest before 1st December by e-mailing me at kevin.staveley@btinternet.com

I will then send a formal invite to those who can be accomodated within the event requesting confirmation of participation and an entry fee. The entry fee will be decided once numbers are known but will NOT raise above £7 (adults) or £14 (juniors)

Naturally an early expression of interest would be appreciated since it will give me more time to ensure I have the correct number of players.

I hope to be able to publish the formation of the groups and the draws at the end of January.

Best wishes

Kevin Staveley
